Why We Created BOUNCE™

Early in 2025, my father, Rick Lawrence, was told by his VA vascular surgeon that she was concerned about his risk of falling — something many people face as they age. Half-jokingly, she said she wished she could wrap him in bubble wrap.

On Christmas Eve 2025, that joke became painfully real.

My dad slipped on a dog toy, broke a foot, severely injured his knee, and spent two weeks in the hospital. The pain, recovery, and disruption that followed were significant. During that time, he said more than once that he wished he had been wrapped in bubble wrap.

So he started thinking about what that would actually mean.

BOUNCE™ was born from that moment — not as a product idea, but as a response to a real, lived problem.

We didn’t set out to build a fall-protection device.

We set out to solve a problem that keeps showing up in everyday life — quietly, repeatedly, and usually too late.

Falls aren’t rare events.

They are ordinary moments that become serious in milliseconds.

Most existing solutions assume people are either fragile, institutionalized, or willing to fundamentally change how they live. Most people aren’t.

BOUNCE™ is built around a simple idea:

Protection should adapt to people — not the other way around.

From the beginning, we focused on reliability first, and dignity always.

That meant creating something you could wear without thinking about — and trust when it matters.

The provisional patent is secured.

The core system is defined.

Now we’re building this carefully, transparently, and with the people who believe this kind of protection should exist.

BOUNCE™

Pre-Impact Fall Protection — When It Matters Most

BOUNCE™ is a belt-mounted system designed to deploy protective airbags before a person hits the ground.

The Problem

Falls are one of the leading causes of serious injury and death among seniors and veterans.

Over 40,000 deaths per year in the U.S. are attributed to fall injuries

Annual costs exceed $80 billion, much of it borne by taxpayers

The average hospital stay after a serious fall is 8–12 days

Typical treatment costs range from $65,000 to $70,000 per event

And those numbers don’t begin to capture the pain, loss of independence, and long recovery that often follow.

Most current solutions:

Detect falls after injury occurs

Protect only limited areas (such as the hips)

Fail during complex, real-world falls involving rotation, forward motion, or multiple impacts

Why Current Solutions Fall Short

Post-fall alerts help responders — but don’t prevent injury.

Hip-only protection leaves arms, torso, and head exposed.

Garment-based systems often shift, snag, or fail during real falls.

Real falls are unpredictable. Protection needs to be, too.

The BOUNCE™ Approach

BOUNCE™ is designed to detect an imminent fall and deploy protective airbags before impact, forming a protective containment around the body.

Key principles:

Pre-impact deployment

Broad, body-level protection

Designed for real-world fall dynamics

Worn externally for reliability and consistency

This is not about making people “safer by limiting them.”

It’s about protecting people as they live their lives.

Why We’re Crowdfunding

We’re raising funds to:

Build pilot-ready units

Conduct controlled testing

Prepare for VA and Medicare pilot pathways

Crowdfunding allows us to validate real-world demand while keeping the project independent, transparent, and mission-driven.

Who This Is For

Initially, BOUNCE™ is being developed for:

Seniors living independently

Veterans with elevated fall risk

Caregivers and families

Organizations focused on injury prevention

Longer term, we believe this technology may also be relevant for occupational safety environments.

Transparency & Responsibility

BOUNCE™ is currently in development.

We are not offering a consumer medical product at this stage.

Contributions support research, testing, and pilot readiness only.

We believe in building this the right way — carefully, responsibly, and with clear expectations.
